Christmas in Cabo: Sand & Surf
Shake the snow off your collar and dive right into the warm beach water of Cabo San Lucas! Put on your sunblock, grab a beach towel, pack a pail and shovel, and head out to relax beachside.
Although some of our beaches aren’t suitable for swimming, Cabo has several options for swimming and snorkeling. We can also recommend beaches for those who just need to sit out in the sand and sun for a while. We have just what you’re looking for:
- Cannery Beach: located between the marina and Lover’s Beach, Cannery is a favorite for families. Less touristy than some others, Cannery provides plenty of beaches for sandcastles and whitecaps to spare.
- Medano Beach: is considered the main swimming beach in Cabo, so it’s sometimes crowded and more touristy than others.
- Chileno Beach: is along the hotel zone but a favorite with locals. Since it’s known for its good snorkeling areas, don’t forget your gear!
- Palmilla Beach: is a perfect spot for watching whales from the shore. There’s an area to launch small boats, and if you get there early enough, you can watch as the local fishermen row in with their catch.

Taking a beach vacation during the Christmas season may feel a little strange for some. Don’t worry! There are plenty of traditions and celebrations to make your Christmas vacation feel more, well, Christmas-y.
From December 16 – December 24, Las Posadas celebrates the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The most important day of the season is Christmas Eve (Nochebuena), and on December 24th, candlelit processions and reenactments abound. Traditionally, believers attend midnight mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus, followed by family dinners and the exchange of gifts.
