If you’re planning a Cabo getaway, there are a lot of details to consider. You want to have a fun time while you’re there. That means a little bit of planning ahead and ensuring you pack what you need. Packing can be challenging, but creating a checklist is always helpful. Do a little research to ensure you have the things you need while you are in this wonderland.
Check out these 7 tips to help you pack perfectly for your getaway!
1. How Much Are You Packing?
First things first: let’s figure out how much you want to pack. Will you be stuffing everything into your carry-on, or do you plan to check a suitcase? Determining how much space you have to pack will help you prioritize your packing needs. If you aren’t sure yet, consider how many nights you will be gone and how much you need to take. Most of the time, you can narrow down your items to pack within your suitcase sizes or options of choice.
We know you probably don’t know exactly what you are packing yet. Start by determining the luggage you plan to bring so you know how much you can pack.
2. Items for Sand, Water, and Sun
You’re probably going to be spending some time in the water or on the beach. This means you need appropriate clothing and protective gear for those times. Most people pack multiple swimsuits for Cabo. Be sure to bring at least one. You will also want easy slip-on shoes for walking in the sand or hanging out on the beach. Think about comfort and relaxation for your beach time and pack accordingly.
The beach isn’t the only sand, water, or sun adventure you might take. If you intend to embark on a cruise or go snorkeling, you want the right accessories for these as well. Our guess is you will take your phone with you. Invest in a waterproof phone case. This will allow you to take your phone even on underwater adventures. Your phone will be vital for capturing photos and memories to take home after your trip.
Finally, you need sun protection as well. This typically includes sunscreen, sunglasses, and some sort of hat. You may be able to get some of this in Cabo, but it is a better choice to pack what you can to be prepared.
3. Be Prepared with ID Documents
Cabo is in Mexico, which means you need to be prepared with certain travel documents. You will need a passport and legal identifying documents as well. Pack these with the bags that will be with you at all times. Find a way to organize them and keep them together to stay secure. It’s also a good idea to pack a pen so that you can easily prepare your Mexico tourism card while you’re on the plane. This helps prevent delays once you land. Don’t lose that tourism card! They charge you a fee if you have to replace it.
4. Prepare for Adventure

No matter what type of activities you have planned while you’re in Cabo, you need to be prepared. If you’re going to do any walking, hiking, or ATV riding, you need clothing and shoes for the tasks. Much of your trip will likely be more relaxed. You still want to be prepared for the excursions and activities that are a little more adventurous. Even if you do camel rides, you should have closed-toe shoes for them.
Pack your beach wear and casual wear. But don’t forget your clothing, accessories, and shoes for the more adventurous activities that you might take part in. This includes sunscreen, comfortable clothing, bug spray, good shoes, and more.
5. Consider Weather and Be Prepared on Your Cabo Getaway
Depending on what time of year you are going, there may be some rain or cooler nights. As you are packing, you will want to be prepared for this possibility. You won’t need a big winter coat in your suitcase. However, you may want to pack a pair of pants and a light jacket. If you are there during the winter months, you are more likely to experience cooler weather. It won’t be too cold and you won’t see snow. However, you may see some cooler times when you want a jacket in the evenings.
Check out the weather before you start packing. This may help you determine exactly what you should take. Be sure to look at the highs and the lows in terms of temperatures to be prepared for anything.
6. Don’t Forget the Essentials
It’s time to start creating your packing list. Ask yourself these questions to create a checklist:
- How many outfits
- What kind of clothing
- Activity plans
- Sun protective gear
- Know the weather expectations
- Plenty of footwear
- Everyday essentials (toothbrush, sunscreen, toiletries, etc.)
Try using packing cubes and a separate toiletry bag to help organize your essentials.
Don’t forget your chargers!
7. Beach Items
Finally, think about the time you will spend on the beach. You are going to need some beach items to be prepared for the trip! This should include a beach bag, plus protective sun gear. However, there will be more to consider here. Do you want tools or toys for the beach? Your resort or hotel will likely supply towels, but you may need to check. Pack some if they do not.
A lot of travelers like to bring towel clips because they are very helpful for beaches, cruises, and more. Bring any other beach accessories that you want or need!
